ACFOP Policy Asks DEA to Make Nurses Agents of the Physicians
The American College of Family Osteopathic Physicians (ACFOP) has passed a position that the ACOFP petition the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to amend its policy to allow pharmacies to accept verbal orders from licensed nurses at the facility as agents of physicians for all scheduled medications for extended care facility patients. The resolution was submitted by its Florida chapter. With AMDA’s help, Gregory James, DO, MPH, FACOFP, drafted the resolution and says it will be submitted to the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) House of Delegates in July in Chicago.

Governor Charlie Crist signs Senate Bill 610
Florida Governor Charlie Crist signs Senate Bill 610, which mandates physical education for all Florida middle school students (grades 6-8). This legislation was heavily supported by all DO organizations (including FOMA and the Florida Society ACOFP).
Dr. Gregory James was present at the bill signing ceremony to represent all Florida DO's. This legislation also falls in line with our current AOA president’s theme of “Fit For Life.” The bill puts mandatory time for physical education back into the curriculum for all middle school children in Florida. The Florida Legislature passed similar legislation a few years ago for all elementary school children as well.
